Regarding Women Empowerment and Travel Industry Executive Women’s Network is important to me because we have an innate ability to relate to people, to uplift and share knowledge that enhances our industries and business goals.  The travel industry has been a very welcoming and warm environment to grow our skillset of people pleasing with 5-star customer service, allowing women to grow in their careers, including Executive Committee, C-Suite Executives and from Directors as department heads to General Managers.  It is also empowering to build our network of business cohorts, industry leaders and participate in organizations that lead to exposure, volunteering on committees to provide your expertise and talent and being a mentor.  As an executive in hotel sales and marketing, the past few decades have brought change, and challenging situations, but staying connected and involved is critical for advancement in your career and those of others.  It is important to stay relevant, embrace life-long learning, and sharing your broad scope of talents – no matter what industry you select.  Having led Ka Ohana o Kaleponi from 1999-2006 in Los Angeles as President, and participating in HSMAI – Los Angeles and Hawaii Chapters as a board member, including PROST, a social networking organization that allows business to grow in the luxury travel market for those cities in which they have grown, i.e. LA Chapter, OC Chapter, IE, Palm Desert, and Las Vegas chapters, the majority seem to be women, however it is very nice to dedicate the relationship building amongst women to help share ideas, grow our strengths and empower each other for greater achievements of the future.  This is the future, and the new norm is what we are living today.  With different roles we play from wife, mother, daughter, caregiver, boss and professional – it’s great to be a Bad Ass!  I recommend a good read by Jen Sincero YOU ARE A BAD ASS, How to stop doubting your greatness and start living an awesome life.  So many times, women can be cruel and competitive only reflecting their own insecurities; but, if you are aware of your many talents, and believe in yourself and your capabilities as woman, take the time for self-care and organization in your own life, you come to understand that the only comparison necessary is to compete with yourself (not with others, in that they are on their own journey, but rather to be the best YOU and to live YOUR BEST LIFE.  Find your purpose and fly!  We are butterflies and dragonflies, from transformations to shining a bright light to illuminate the way to listen to our hearts that lead the way to the truth and enlightenment – an awakening (an arising, the meaning of the Hawaiian name Alana, i.e. of the aloha spirit).  Good luck to all on your own journey in life.
