Mentorship Committee

TIEWN is providing mentorship opportunities which is one of the pillars of the network — to promote the mission and objectives of the organization as well as to respond to the need from mentees for enriched training, networking, and professional development opportunities in the field of travel, tourism, and hospitality as well as closely related fields including entrepreneurship, real estate and others.

The goal is to provide a strong mentoring relationship utilizing collaboration and commitment from all involved. The program will provide professional development for all participants. Many strong mentoring relationships will provide an opportunity for both parties to learn from each other through the development of a caring and respectful professional partnership through the TIEWN program.

“I believe in all women because traveling allows anyone to open up the mindset and experience deep human values of connection, tolerance, and compassion, that traveling should be part of each and every person’s life.”

  • Felicity Brown

“Women make up the majority of travel numbers and the lion’s share of travel industry staff. It is time to cheer on the leaders, and encourage the newcomers so we can rebuild an industry recovering from a global pandemic to a strong future that reflects our core values of diversity, education, and connection.”

  • Jessica Kramer

“I dream of an industry with female GMs, female startup founders in hospitality tech, female professors teaching the next generation of hoteliers, and women being given the same opportunities as men throughout the travel and hospitality industry.”

  • Andrea Grigg

“If you walk into a room and you are the only woman in the room, you will be the one that is over-prepared.”

Education Committee

The main objective of the Education Committee is to provide strategic goals and oversight for educational opportunities for members. The Committee builds digital programs that address a diverse array of relevant and informative topics. They brainstorm and execute ways to implement these programs in a professional and engaging manner. In addition, they create and distribute resources that are advantageous to women in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry. They ensure that all policies and programs promote diverse and inclusive environments.

  • Andrea Hutchinson

“The gender pay gap, women in business, entrepreneurship and trade, and training young women in skills for the future are initiatives that require collective action and collective consciousness. This will enable us to move towards a place where legislation, policies, and initiatives on women’s economic and personal empowerment are at the forefront of our worldview.”

  • Maria Drueco

“The travel industry is one of the biggest employers in the world -- that means more than 200 million people, or roughly 7% of the world's population, derive their livelihood from travel in some form. I believe it's crucial that travel leaders lead by example in at least one important way: the diversity of the people they put in positions of power. Research shows that in order to reach gender equity, a company can't just strive for a 50/50 split between men and women, but rather it needs to move beyond and increase the number of women, especially women of color in positions of leadership.”

  • Allison Adams

“We are in a period of personal, social, and economic transformation, and the more we can do as leaders to support sharing, caring, and inclusion in travel and hospitality the faster we can realize a future that works for us all!”

  • Beth Searls

“Embracing inclusion and diversity is how I was brought up, and a career in hospitality further emphasized that. A diverse workplace allows more ideas and processes and a wider range of experiences and perspectives, increasing productivity and retention. And if everyone feels welcome in your place of business, you attract a diverse group of clients. ‘There is no hospitality like understanding.’”

Program Planning Committee

The Program Planning Committee plans and executes the organization's virtual and in-person events or similar activities such as member meet-ups in different cities. The Committee solicits program ideas from the membership. The Committee also provides vision and oversight and ensures the events are aligned with TIEWN’s mission, vision, and core values. They set content and networking priorities for the events (including speakers, session descriptions, workshops, pre-event activities, and post-event activities). In addition, they evaluate reviews from the previous years’ conference to achieve new goals for the upcoming events. They work towards executing a successful and well-attended program. They help ensure the events are promoted in the most important channels as well as their own. They solicit volunteers to help with registration and facilitation during live events.

  • Nile Tuzun

"A woman who possess self worth, confidence and freedom to choose in regard to their private and professional choices can live a life free of domination and fear. And only when a woman is educated, well informed and empowered she can contribute to the overall development of a balanced society. It is not only important to remind women of their power but it is absolutely necessary and we can achieve this first through education.”

  • Dina Belon

“I find so much personal satisfaction in helping women maximize their career potential and expand our company's leadership diversity. I had a female mentor early in my career that helped me believe I could accomplish more than I thought I could, so I know what that impact can be on an individual.”

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee plays an essential role in maintaining the TIEWN Membership Program. The goal is to bring in new members and strengthen the network of women in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. The Committee identifies the needs of members and develops strategies to meet those needs. They ensure that members are optimizing their benefits and seeking value in their membership experience. They formulate and implement plans for networking opportunities, membership growth, and membership retention.

  • Mary Mattson-Quagliana

“When goals are hit, success is accomplished. Success is not accomplished by an individual, but rather a group of people. It took their time, energy, conversations, and commitment to work together to achieve success. Having like-minded people in TIEWN, we have a common goal to ensure diversity and inclusion in our industry. To know true success of the goal is when we don't have to make it a goal anymore, it just happens. That is impact.”

  • Jill Langley

“I’m excited to head up the Membership Committee and represent TIEWN at industry conferences and events. Recognition of the benefits of membership will increase interest in joining our organization which benefits everyone.”

PR Committee

The goal of the PR Committee is to create a positive image of TIEWN on a global basis and to generate awareness among women in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industry. The Committee works together to develop thoughtful PR campaigns to promote the TIEWN membership program, in-person & digital events, and other TIEWN committees. They provide oversight and input on promotional materials and prepare and distribute press releases to a targeted list within travel, tourism, and hospitality, as well as groups outside of the industry. They seek opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising while ensuring that all collaborations align with TIEWN’s values and mission. They potentially organize a PR event before or after one of the TIEWN conferences.

  • Kim Marshall

“I believe that groups like TIEWN can get to the bottom of what is holding us back and be one of the avenues that teaches women how to reach out and help each other along the road to success. It’s time to share tools and learn to build each other up, not tear each other down, applaud our fellow females, and mentor one another.”

  • Heather Nelson

“I am delighted to join TIEWN. I look forward to contributing to their mission of supporting women in all sectors of the travel and hospitality industry. I believe it’s important to uplift & encourage women on many levels. Having been mentored by many incredible women leaders over the span of my career, I would like to share what I’ve learned and help elevate the next generation of women in our vast, dynamic, and ever-changing industry.”
